How many eyes do the Sinister Starfish in Shiprekt have? Don’t turn your back on them.
Behind any “scary maze” there needs to be an idea that causes fear. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be scary! We wanted to create a creative journey in the depths of the sea. If you listen, the sailors are singing “Waves are high, end is nigh, monsters will pull you down”. How many of us have imagined monsters down in the water, below us? Some of us are plenty afraid of the creatures we know are really there, not to mention imaginary ones!
We don’t all find ourselves on an actual ship battling waves in a storm, and definitely have never been attacked by a Kraken. But in life, we can easily feel like we are battling the harsh waves of life. Going through struggles, hardships, hurt and indecision… can feel like our little personal boat is being tossed around in the sea. We don’t know if we will recover, end up lost, or sink to the bottom. We want to escape unharmed, but how?
As you enter this Shiprekt maze, we assure you that you will escape it. In fact, you probably assumed you would. The fears and scares are just temporary, and you will probably end up laughing at yourself. The harm isn’t real in this maze. Now… wouldn’t it be amazing to know for sure that you could escape the unknown dangers of our own personal choppy waters of life?
Again, the sailor’s shanty comes to mind… “Yo ho, fear in your soul. What man can set a sailor free?” How can we find assurance, stability, and even hope… in the midst of a stormy sea in our lives? Who could help us? What if your life had an anchor?
The anchor (which is similar in shape to the cross) has been a symbol of Christ in Christianity, because of the hope he gives.
During the life of Jesus, he often spent time on the water. He calmed the vicious, life-threatening storm while on a ship with some very scared men… with just a word. To show his authority. He walked on water, to show faith. Scary seas and the absolute lack of control we have out on the water when it gets rough… has been something that people can relate to, long ago and now. And Jesus tells us that he is that man referred to in the Shanty we sing tonight, the man who can set the sailors free. No waves, no fears, and certainly no monsters… can overcome him. He is the only one who can offer us stability in the storms of life, like an anchor. We don’t want to be a boat out on dangerous waters without an anchor, for a reason! Jesus assures us that when we accept his gift of dying on the cross on our behalf, he will never leave us. Never forsake us. We have a guaranteed anchor on board at all times. Top of the line. He will fight for us. He knows our future, and will make it come to pass in his way, in his time.
You don’t have to let fear dominate us.
